Regenerative Medicine FAQs

It is the process of replacing or “regenerating” human cells or tissues to restore or establish normal function by taking live tissue from a source, either your own tissue PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) or Stem Cells (ethically derived umbilical cord tissue, which is connective tissue) and then injecting that into your joint to:

  • Control the Inflammation
  • Lower Your Pain Profile
  • Stop the Degenerative Process
  • Grow and Repair Your Joint Tissue

Integrated Medicine is bringing together a team of medical professionals, including medical doctor, PAs, chiropractors, therapists and more, all under one roof to review a patient’s medical issues, develop a customized treatment plan, then implement that plan so the patient can experience wellness and live pain free.

Stem cells are the body’s raw materials—cells from which all other cells with specialized functions are generated. Under the right conditions in the body or a laboratory, stem cells divide to form more cells called daughter cells. These daughter cells become either new stem cells or specialized cells (differentiation) with a more specific function, such as blood cells, brain cells, heart muscle cells, or bone cells. No other cell in the body has the natural ability to generate new cell types.

In a study, stem cells were received by 441 people, with 436 people serving as controls. Overall, people treated with any stem cells experienced a significant decrease in knee pain starting at three months of treatment, underscoring the potential of therapy for knee osteoarthritis.

Currently, the FDA has not approved any stem cell-based products for use, other than cord blood-derived hematopoietic progenitor cells (blood forming stem cells) for certain indications. In Europe, certain therapies are approved.

For detailed and current information about specific stem cell therapies or other regenerative medicines, speak to your healthcare professional.

Joint Pain FAQs

Condition: Degenerative joint disease, also known as osteoarthritis (OA), is a common “wear-and–tear” disease.  The underlying cause of this condition is typically chronic repetitive motion that results in inflammation and structural joint damage.  Inflammation causes pain, redness, and swelling. The tiniest amount of trauma triggers inflammation as the body attempts to clean-up/protect damaged tissue.  This cycle of joint damage and inflammation leads to the break-down of cartilage that serves as a smooth gliding surface and cushion in the joints.  Any joint can be affected, but frequently found in the knees, hands, hips, and spine.

Background: More than 50% of adults over the age of 65 are affected by degenerative joint disease. This condition is associated with pain, loss of function, and reduced endurance, ultimately leading to weight gain and associated complications.

Causes: The most common cause of shoulder pain occurs when rotator cuff tendons become trapped under the bony area in the shoulder. The tendons become inflamed or damaged. This condition is called rotator cuff tendinitis or bursitis.

Shoulder pain may also be caused by:

  • Arthritis in the shoulder joint
  • Bone spurs in the shoulder area
  • Bursitis, which is inflammation of a fluid-filled sac (bursa) that normally protects the joint and helps it move smoothly
  • Broken shoulder bone
  • Dislocation of the shoulder
  • Shoulder separation
  • Frozen shoulder, which occurs when the muscles, tendons, and ligaments inside the shoulder become stiff, making movement difficult and painful
  • Overuse or injury of nearby tendons, such as the bicep muscles of the arms
  • Nerve injury that leads to abnormal shoulder movement
  • Tears of the rotator cuff tendons
  • Poor shoulder posture and mechanics

Back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek medical help or miss work. Back pain is a leading cause of disability worldwide.

Fortunately, measures can help prevent or relieve most back pain episodes, especially for people younger than age 60. If prevention fails, simple home treatment and using the body correctly often will heal the back within a few weeks. Surgery is rarely needed to treat back pain.

When to see a doctor

Most back pain gradually improves with home treatment and self-care, usually within a few weeks. Contact your health care provider for back pain that:

  • Lasts longer than a few weeks
  • Is severe and doesn’t improve with rest
  • Spreads down one or both legs, especially if the pain goes below the knee
  • Causes weakness, numbness, or tingling in one or both legs
  • Is paired with unexplained weight loss

Neck pain is common. Poor posture, whether from leaning over a computer or hunching over a workbench, strains neck muscles. Osteoarthritis also is a common cause of neck pain.

Rarely, neck pain can be a symptom of a more serious problem. Seek medical care for neck pain with numbness or loss of strength in the arms or hands or for pain that shoots into a shoulder or down an arm.

Symptoms

Symptoms include:

  • Pain that’s often worsened by holding the head in one place for long periods, such as when driving or working at a computer
  • Muscle tightness and spasms
  • Decreased ability to move the head
  • Headache

When to see a doctor

Seek immediate care if severe neck pain results from an injury, such as a motor vehicle accident, diving accident or fall.

Contact a health care provider if neck pain:

  • Is severe
  • Persists for several days without relief
  • Spreads down arms or legs
  • Comes with headache, numbness, weakness or tingling

Weight Loss FAQs

Peptides are very tiny proteins made up of short chains of amino acids. They signal the cells in your body to act in certain ways. As a result, peptides are responsible for how you function, feel, look and live overall. Since different peptides affect different cells and functions, they can be highly tailored and targeted to treat a full spectrum of health, wellness, fitness, aging and cognitive conditions.

Peptides are beneficial for any man or woman who wants to look, feel, live and perform their very best. If you maintain an active life and are seeking a simpler way to improve your health, weight or fitness concerns, peptides may be perfect for you. Your doctor can help you find the best peptides for your lifestyle and personal goals. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medications, or have a medical condition, it’s important to discuss these conditions with your doctor before proceeding with peptide therapy.

When you start peptide therapy, you may notice results within a matter of weeks. That said, it can take anywhere from 3-6 months before you begin noticing the full benefits of your treatments.

If you have any health conditions, are undergoing any treatments, or taking any medication, it’s important to discuss these with your doctor or a specialist before proceeding with peptide therapy.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a person’s weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters. A high BMI can indicate high body fatness, and a low BMI can indicate too low body fatness. To calculate your BMI, see the BMI Calculator. Or determine your BMI by finding your height and weight in this BMI Index Chart.

  • If your BMI is less than 18.5, it falls within the underweight range
  • If your BMI is 18.5 to 24.9, it falls within the Healthy Weight range
  • If your BMI is 25.0 to 29.9, it falls within the overweight range
  • If your BMI is 30.0 or higher, it falls within the obese range.
